Holly Run Reigate Priory - 17th December 2006
The Holly Run in Reigate's Priory Park on 17th December provided a popular pre Christmas race for many of our athletes, and efforts were paid off with several team and individual medals. U20 Georgie Bruinvels beat the ladies from all age groups to win the Senior / Veteran ladies race, and together with Charlotte Craig and Rebecca Black, secured the Ladies silver team medals. The Ladies B team were also rewarded with the bronze team medals. In the under 13 / under 15 Girls race, good performances by Ciara Denny, Jessica Filby and Cora Harrison resulted in gold U13 Team medals. Nick Hodges led the Mens Senior team into gold medal position as he took 6th place, ably supported by Tim Elsey (12th) and Steve Bush (16th). Luke Caldwell improved further on last year's 2nd place and had an excellent run to win the U17 boys race. Subscriptions are to remain the same for the coming year. The Club's commitment to UK Athletics will be £50 for the club and £3 per athlete, rising to £5 per athlete in the following year.

The relays mark the start of the road season for the club. Races start at 14.30 for Juniors and 15.00 for Seniors. The race comprises teams of 4 each running a lap of about 2 miles, from the car park at the bottom of Box Hill towards Mickleham and turning left by the Running Horses, back out to the A24 and than along the cycle track to the car park.
DMV results from previous years can be found here (MS Excel 19k).
I would like to encourage everyone to take part as there is great team spirit and as the club organises the event we should also give this our strong support. In previous years we have had at least 4 teams, they can be either men / women / mixed teams. Last year the men came 2nd.
Calling all volunteers - we will also need marshals for this event, so if there is anyone who can help please contact Graham Taylor or Nick Hodges.
Surrey Cross Country Leagues - Congratulations!
- a message from Mens Team Manager Nick Hodges
Well done to the men’s team who finished 2nd in the league and have secured promotion to Division 2! With 20 runners the team came 3rd on the day and managed to hold off Sutton Runners for the final league result. This was the largest team of Dorking runners to take part in a cross country league race whilst I have been team manager, and I would like to thank everyone for running.
You all deserve congratulations, as you all helped the team over the season. Lots of you were saying what fantastic team spirit there was and hope this continues in the new season.
Congratulations also go to the ladies' team who finished 2nd overall in the league, and to the U17 Girls' team who finished 2nd as well.
Juniors Emelia Gorecka and Zoe Shannon had outstanding individual performances over the match series, winning the U13 and U17 age categories respectively. Well done to everyone who took part!

Surrey Cross Country Championships - Lloyd Park, 07/01/2006
Having trained hard during the Christmas holidays around Denbies Vineyards in all weather including a blizzard, DMV’s junior runners were not phased by the early morning snow falls before the Surrey Cross Country Championships at Lloyd Park, Croydon. With the snow turning to light rain the Club were delighted to secure two individual gold medals, and one silver, plus a team silver. In the U13 girls race 11 year old Emelia Gorecka immediately went to the front and was never headed, winning by about 50m in a fast time of 12mins 55secs for the 3,250m, and also leading the team (Hannah Fay, Cora Harrison and Mariam El Baghdady) into 2nd place. Zoe Shannon finally became Surrey XC Champion in the U17 girls race with a comfortable victory at her 6th attempt. After a steady start she went away on the long hill to finish in 21mins 41 for the 4,800m. In the same race Becky Gardner held 3rd place for much of the race, but was just beaten on the run in despite fighting hard all the way to the line (22mins 08) to secure her place in the National Inter-Counties. In the U15 Boys race Luke Caldwell, who has been improving by leaps and bounds over the past few months, put in a superb performance 2nd place (15mins 38) over 4000m. Juniors also represented the club in the U13 boys and U15 girls races. Eight DMV ladies took part in the senior ladies race over 8K with W40 Anne Davidson leading the team into 8th place. The men also secured 8th out of the 18 complete teams who closed, with Nick Hodges being fastest over the 12K course. Former DMV member Robbie James placed 3rd overall in the race. DMV results can be found on the Results page. Full results can be found on the Surrey AA website.
