Road Relays
During September we take part in both the County and South of England road relays. For both of these events we need teams of 6 for the senior men and teams of 4 for the vet men and ladies. The 2 races are great for team spirit and the aim is get a good turn out this year ahead of the cross country season.
8th September - Wimbledon Park (Athletics Track), County Championships start 12 Noon
29th September - Rushmoor Arena, Aldershot, SOE
Please can everyone confirm their availability for these races to Nick Hodges (Men) and Dave Stead (Ladies).
DMVAC Working Party
Help is required at 9am on 22nd September at Pixham to do a number of tasks including dismantling the discus cage. Please show your support.
Mob Match 22nd September Reigate Priory Park
The cross country season this year will start in September with a pre-season "Mob Match" 5 mile race in Reigate Priory on Saturday 22nd starting at 2pm, between Reigate, Dulwich and ourselves. The idea is to get as many people as possible and is open to both men and women. The more runners the more points we get, so we need everyone to turn up. Please confirm availability to Nick Hodges.
DMVAC Barn Dance and BBQ
The Barn Dance will be held on on Saturday 10th November 2007, starting at 7pm through to 11pm. Make sure you are there early for the start! This is an event for friends and family, whether they run or not.
We have a fantastic venue. It is an authentic barn, with a stage and used as a function room, with antique tools decorating the walls. The location is
Gildings Farm, Partridge Lane, Newdigate.
There is a live band with a caller to get everyone involved and explain all the dances. Food is also included in the price. Alcoholic and soft drinks, will be available to purchase. This year there are only 90 tickets available, to reduce the crowding and enable more room for dancing. Already there is a lot of interest and demand for tickets is likely to be high. This is an event for which there are a number of overheads which have to be covered prior to the evening so getting your tickets early will assist with this. Also it will guarantee you your family and friends places at what is going to be one of the clubs main social events of the year. Don’t be disappointed, get your tickets early!
The price of tickets has still been kept very low at £12 for adults and £6 for children (Sorry but under 17s must be accompanied by an adult).
Tickets available from Howard Jones. Please make cheques payable to Dorking and Mole Valley AC.

The Surrey league comprises 4 races, 2 this year and 2 next year. Having just been promoted to Division 2 we were very unlucky in that we missed promotion to division 1 by 1 point. We had a great season with up to 25 runners at the 3rd race of the season. We hope that we match the enthusiasm of last year and finish highly in the league. What we did discover is that every point counts and even more important is every race especially the first race.
Start times for Mens Surrey League are 2.30pm (Boys) and 3.00pm (Men) (except for 12th January early start 2.00pm and 2.30pm).
Surrey Road League and Championships 2007 - Final Results
Nick Hodges placed 2nd overall in a highly competiitive Senior Mens category. Valerie Churchill won the Ladies O45 category with Sue George placing 2nd, and Colin Simpson was 5th in the Men's O50 category. In the team events, DMV finished 9th and 10th in the Ladies and Mens events respectively; however this position reflected the fact that we had incomplete teams at some races.
Surrey Road League and Championships 2007
The League consists of five races and there are separate competitions for men's and women's teams, senior men and women, men over 40, over 50 and over 60 and women over 35, over 45 and over 55.

Final Fixture - Mens and Boys Surrey XC League 10th February 2007 - So Close to Promotion!
The men's team started the final Surrey cross country league race of the season at Epsom Downs in 3rd place, 90 points behind second place Wimbledon Windmilers. Again another great turn out with 19 runners gave great team spirit as we lined up on the start line, knowing that every place counted. With the usual course, there was a fast down hill start as everyone jostled for position at the start of the 2 lap 5 mile course. After the race everyone was asking if we had we done enough to be promoted. We would just have to wait for the results. The competition was good but with our strong team we managed to win our second fixture by 55 points. All that mattered now was how the other teams had done. So was this enough. We already knew that Hercules Wimbledon were going to be promoted, but with second place only 90 points away this was within our sights and also secure promotion. In the end we finished 1 point behind Wimbledon Windmilers, who had 1530 points and DMVAC 1531 points in Division 2. This was a fantastic result considering we were promoted to Division 2 this season, and after the first fixture we were in 7th place. Well done to everyone who ran during the season. To win 2 fixtures during the season is amazing. You should all be pleased with this result, and hopefully we can build on this fantastic team spirit that we have at DMVAC. (Nick Hodges)
