MABAC League 2012
The MABAC Running League comprises Running Clubs in based in SW London, Surrey and Middlesex, England. MABAC arranges a series of races throughout the year, particularly aimed at the fun runner. Most are cross-country events held on Sunday mornings in some beautiful parts of the Surrey countryside, and are very popular with club members and guests. As well as the senior race of just over 8 km (5 miles) there are also joggers' and junior events of about 4 km (2.5 miles). Each runner scores points for their Club and a trophy is awarded at the end of the year for the winning Club. Individual runners who complete 6 or more races during the year also receive a MABAC T-shirt. Each senior runner receives 5 points and the first 6 male runners and first 3 female runners from each club receive extra points depending on where they finished. Scoring for the Mabac Junior League is more complicated because the results are subject to a handicap, based on the age and gender of the runner.
DMVAC run a parallel competiton for individual members, awarding trophies for the top men, women and juniors at the end of the year. This is scored by John Barron. The winners aren't always those at the front of the race - regular participation is more likely to win a coveted DMVAC MABAC League award!

December
Wisley - 2nd December 2012

Dorking runners just before the start of the Wisley MABAC. (Picture: Jeni Lewthwaite)
It was a fantastic day for running with lots of sunshine, nice crisp air, not too much mud and not too many hills - who could ask for anything more? DMVAC had a great turnout with 28 ladies and 30 men in the senior race and 15 joggers in the 1 lap race. Despite this, DMVAC didn't manage to overtake Wimbledon in the Mabac League but we came second not far behind.
Congratulations to Rebecca Black who won the Ladies race and Nathaniel Booker who came 3rd in the Men's race. DMVAC Junior runners have completely dominated the MABAC Junior series - Wisley was no exception with Ewan Bate coming 1st and Daisy Bate first girl and 6th overall. Overall, DMAVC Juniors scored 491 points (over 400 more than the next placed team!).
Results (Excel file).
November
Puttenham Common - 4th November
Howard Jones was first DMVAC man and Rebecca Black first DMVAC lady, pipped into 2nd place overall by one second. Sadly, DMAVC will be second to Wimbledon Windmilers this year who have a storming lead that would be hard to catch up ...

October
Nonsuch Park - 7th October
A good turn out for DMVAC runners, only surpassed by the Windmilers who are pulling out all the stops to win that 2012 trophy! Howard Jones was first DMVAC man and Charlotte Craig the first DMVAC lady home.
Results (Excel file).
September
Lightwater Country Park - 16th September
Not so many senior DMVAC runners turned out for this race as usual but once again the Juniors dominated their race. The top three places were taken by Dorking Ladies (R Black, L Ionescu and H Morris) whilst the first DMVAC men took positions 7 to 10.

Another good turnout for DMVAC. Congratulations to David Moore on winning the Wimbledon race by some distance!

July
The Ralph Henley Holmbury Half - 22nd July
Congratulations to Steve Bush first V50 and DMVAC male in a very commendable 8th place in 1:35:58. Graeme Mackay came in on 1.42.05 to take 13th place overall and first V45 male. Louise Ionescu was first Dorking lady in 1.57.19 and 8th lady overall. Full results (PDF).
June
Holmwood Common - 17th June
DMVAC managed to win the men's race, the women's race, the junior race and the joggers race - not bad even though this is our home event! Congatulations to Nick Hodges, Rebecca Black, Scott Robert Shaw and George Robert Shaw.
Results (Excel file).
May
Farley Heath - 22nd May
DMVAC did very well in all three races, with David Moore coming first equal in the senior race, Adrian Winslade winning the jogger's race and Tom Lowry and Katherine Tilling coming first and second in the junior race. As usual, the club dominated the junior race in spite of many young athletes away competing in the Young Athletes League at Horsham. The club is currently in second position in the overall points table with our "home match" at Holmwood Common to come next month.

April
Winterfold Forest - 15th April
Another lovely sunny but cool day slightly marred by many runners (and most of the juniors) going wrong at the first turn which resulted in a longer race (nearer 10Km than 5 miles!) and skewed times. However, DMVAC had a magnificant turn out and took 15 of the top 16 places!
