John Barron (Membership Secretary) also needs your email address. His address is membership@dmvac.org.uk

New News Forum, Newsletters and Announcements

Firstly apologies for my lack of website updates over the past few months. I am currently in my final year of a Maths and Stats degree with the Open University (final exams in Oct) and unfortunately the DMVAC website has got pushed to the bottom of the workpile, shame on me! I have set up a news forum that, after a while, I hope can replace this news page so that club members without web design knowledge can post messages and announcements to keep everyone else up to date. Anyone can view the forum as a guest but to post or reply to a message you must create a username and password via the forums. The current Newletter can also be downloaded from the forum.

Surrey Road League 2010 Champion

Nick Hodges retained the title in the Surrey Road League again this season. He has now won this competition for the past 3 seasons.

Nick started off his campaign with 2nd place in the Sutton 10k in 32.52. In the next race, the Richmond half marathon, he went one place better by winning in a time of 1.12.08.

The big home race; the Dorking 10 saw Nick finish in his highest ever position, coming 2nd in stifling conditions in 56.26.

In the next race, the Richmond 10k Nick put in another solid performance to finsh in 6th in 32.56. He followed this up with his second win of the season at the Elmore 7 mile event in a time of 38.03.

With victory within sight, Nick finished 5th in the Elmbridge 10k in a slightly below par 33.35. However, a solid 3rd place in the final event, the Wimbledon 5k, in a time of 16.15, saw Nick claim the title with his 5 best events giving him a combined score of 9 points. The second place was taken in 27 points and 3rd place a further 5 points back.

This convincing win is testament to Nick’s dedication and hard work. Nick is talented but his work effort is second to none and it is this dedication, that even saw him run 5 miles on the morning of his wedding day, that results in his excellent results.

Add to this Nick’s Club Record Marathon time and we can see how lucky we are to have such a great runner and great guy at the club.

Dorking 10

The Dorking 10 was another roaring success thanks to the hard work Sheena Bassett and team put in year after year. A big thank you to all the organisers and volunteers!
We also had some amazing performances from our runners with two athletes in the top 3(Nick Hodges 2nd and Bruce Harrold 3rd), as well as many other excellent runs in the very hot conditions.

Nick Hodges Wins Richmond Half Marathon

Nick ran a very impressive race to finish nearly two minutes clear in the Ranelagh Half Marathon in a near pb time of 72:08. The race also doubled as the Surrey Half Marathon Championship making Nick the Surrey Half Marathon Champion. Congratulations to Nick and all other Dorking athletes who completed the race.

If you would like to run you can get together your own team and let Howard know or equally you can just let Howard know you want to run and he will be able to link you up with others to make up teams of about the same standard runners.

February 21st Busy Weekend: County XC Champs and Halfs

February 7th - Bookham 10 Another Success

February 6th Dorking Men's and Junior teams become Division 2 Champions 2010!

Champions2010

CHAMPIONS! On Saturday 5th February the Dorking and Mole Valley mens athletics team ran at Richmond Park where they secured promotion to the Surrey Cross Country League Division 1.
At the start of the race Striders Of Croydon were top of the league, with Dorking and Mole Valley 79 points behind, and Stragglers of Croydon out of promotion a further 127 points back in 3rd.
Dorking putting out one of its strongest teams, still required a monumental effort to leap frog to the top of the league and hold off a very strong Stragglers team by 13 points, who themselves moved up to 2nd place. Of note was a brilliant run by Nick Hodges winning his 3rd league race of the season though it has required a real team effort throughout the winter .
click here to see the individual efforts.

February 6th - Dorking Women's XC team stay safely in Division 1

Well done to all those ladies who have taken part in the Surrey League over the winter months, and helped to maintain Dorking in Division 1 of the Surrey league. Over the season the A team finished 8th, B team finished 24th, C team 44th, and D team 46th. The results for the last match at Wimbledon can be found here
