East Surrey Road Relays, Boxhill 22nd March 2003
DMVAC hosted the relays at the foot of Boxhill. Numbers this year were down despite the warm sunny weather. We had 3 complete teams. The pace for the first leg was initially set by Nick Hodges, but along the A24 he was not able to keep up with the leader and finished his leg 2nd in 11.03 minutes. He was followed by Pat Furlong with an excellent time of 11.56, Rob Steer 12.48 and Rob Russell 12.44.
The womens team also performed well, with Maddy Dykes 13.28, Charlotte Craig 14.54, Karen Marshall 14.52, and Helen Pickett 14.05.
Well done to Alan Marshall who kindly stepped in to complete the C team in a time of 19.33. The other runners Patrick Martin 12.56, Tim Elsey 13.44 and Bill Lovesey 13.27.
In the U13 race Evan Erskine Thomas had an excellent run to finish 2nd 14.11 and Sam Jaques finished 5th 15.12.
Worthing 20, 23rd March 2003
It was a hot sunny Sunday morning when several members of DMVAC headed down to the South coast to run this fast flat 4 lap course. For the first 12 miles Nick Hodges was seecond after setting a fast pace clocking the first 5 miles in 28 minutes and then 10 miles in 58 minutes. Unfortunately this was not to last as his recent injury started to niggle so he stopped at 15 miles. Further down the field Rob Steer had a steady run and kept Simon Pickett going to finish in 2 hours 28 minutes.
Berkhampsted Half Marathon, 2nd March 2003
Memories of this course are that it was very hilly, and that a number of us vowed never to run this again. The cousre was described as undulating but nothing prepared us for the steep hill 2 miles into the race.
Chessington 10km, 16th February 2003
It was a cold dry Sunday morning when members of DMVAC were preparing for the race, most of those running wanting to get a fast race under the belt as they prepare for spring marathons, Paris and London. After a slow start with a few flying elbows at the start the race got into to rhythm as the runners spread out along the Chessington road. The pace at the front was fast with Nick Hodges clocking up another personal best of 33:19, with Jason McCreight hot on his heels in about 36 minutes closely followed by Pat Furlong 38:30, Rob Steer 39:53, Tim Elsey also clocked a PB with 39:59, Helen Pickett 42:07, Simon Dykes 44:52 and John Barron 50:04. Hopefully the mens team will have a good position, but unfortunately we were not able to field a womens team.
PB's all round, 9th February 2003
There were PB's all round today with runners competing in both the Chichester 10km and also the Wokingham Half Marathon. Down at Chichester the womens team came 10th with amazing PB's from Helen Pickett 41:46 25th, and Charlotte Craig 44:45 47th and Lynne Cue 46:07. In the mens race Nick Hodges set a new PB of 33:31 to finish 15th and Brian Blackman finished in 57:03. Whilst in Wokingham Maddy Dykes and Mark Jaques completed the half marathon in personal best time of 1hour 33 minutes.
