Surrey Road league 2005 (report by Nick Hodges)

Well done to the men's team who finished 4th overall at the end of season out of 25 teams. During the summer months there is a series of five road races in Surrey from 5km to 10 miles, including Sutton 10km, Dorking 10 miles, Dysart Dash 10km, Elmbridge 10km and Wimbledon 5km. Some of the races in the league also include the County Championships. Unfortunately this year the club has struggled to get numbers out to the races, especially with the women. It is a shame that the women only managed to field a complete team for the our own event the Dorking 10. Despite the low turnout the men's team managed to field a complete team for all the races. The races in the league are all very good, with a good levels of entry, with majority on road and a couple have sections on River Thames tow path. In future years I would like to urge more runners to take part in this series and hopefully the club can return to the levels of turnout that we used to see three to four years ago.

This season we have seem some fantastic results with the highlights being Tim Elsey's training helping him to beat a number of his pb's at the 5km/10km and 10mile, Andy Fay getting quicker and quicker as seen by the improvement in his 10km times and Howard Jones who has struggled with injury over the season yet still puts out quick times. Well done to Tanya who has also turned out regularly for these races with improved times. Well done to everyone.
