Sportshall / Junior Track & Field Training

The aim of this section of the club is to give young athletes (boys and girls, 11-15 years) an introduction to the major disciplines of athletics: track running (sprint, middle distance, and hurdles), cross-country, throws, jumps, and relays. Each session will include:
Warm-ups, warm-downs, and stretching exercises
Speed, strength, and endurance-building exercises
Skills and techniques in different disciplines

Our sessions run on Tuesdays from 7pm to 8:30pm from September until April at Ashcombe School, Dorking, and at Pixham Lane Sports ground from April till September.

The most important thing to bring is enthusiasm! Athletics is fun, and our training includes games and competitions to stimulate and challenge everyone. Athletes are encouraged to take part in the Surrey Sportshall Athletics league in the winter, and various sports leagues in the summer, and also our very popular distance running for those interested in the MABAC cross-country league. Athletes should be prepared to “have a go” at anything; the emphasis at this level is to encourage all-round fitness and ability rather than training for one particular event.

We cater for all standards from beginners to the very able, and specialist coaching sessions are available within the club for athletes who wish to take their skills further. Club Juniors have gone on to represent Surrey and England.
